Today we’re spotlighting someone who brings curiosity, confidence, and a whole lot of science magic to her students — Mrs. Parnell, 7th Grade Science teacher!
🧪 Her Teaching Philosophy
“As a junior high science teacher, my aim is to cultivate curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking in every student. I believe that students learn science best when they feel safe to ask questions, explore new ideas, and even make mistakes as part of their learning process. Junior high is a pivotal time when students begin forming their identity as learners and I always try to make my classroom a space where my students can see themselves as capable investigators of the world around them. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire a lifelong interest in science by nurturing each student's wonder, perseverance, and sense of belonging. When students leave my classroom, I want them to feel empowered to ask questions, seek evidence, and approach challenges with curiosity and confidence.”
💡 Her Favorite Lightbulb Moment
“My favorite lightbulb moments are those moments when students can connect what we are learning about in science class to their life and their world. I love when they see a phenomenon happen right in front of them and suddenly understand the concept behind it. This week we were learning about thermal equilibrium and why ice melts in a drink and they got so excited when they understood why! The moment they understand why something happens and not just what happens, their whole perspective changes. That instant where confusion turns to clarity is amazing to watch! When students see science as useful and relevant to them and what is happening around them, that's when real learning happens! The look of ‘OH, I get it now’ never gets old!”
💛 Why She Loves Teaching at ECISD
“What I love most about teaching at EC is that EC has created an environment where everyone, students and staff, feels valued and connected. I love our shared commitment to doing what is best for our students. I appreciate working in a place that celebrates different backgrounds, perspectives, and strengths. It's inspiring to work with people who lift each other up and treat each other with respect.”
Mrs. Parnell brings the perfect mix of curiosity, compassion, and pride to our campus. She doesn’t just teach science — she helps students see themselves as thinkers, problem-solvers, and doers. We’re proud to have her leading the way and lighting up learning at ECJH!

In November, our 2nd graders dived into the world of 3D shapes! 🟦🔺🟢 From cubes to cones, students explored, built, and played their way to understanding how shapes exist all around us. Learning about 3D shapes helps students see the world in new ways—whether stacking blocks, designing projects, or noticing shapes in everyday life. Fun + learning = a perfect combo! ✨

Meanwhile, Mrs. Brooks’ 3rd graders became Egg-celent Division Specialists 🥚➗, cracking division problems with teamwork and fun.
All of our Buccaneers had a blast mastering division and are sailing into the weekend ready for more! 🏴☠️🟢🟡⚓✨

Today we’re celebrating Zach Richey, who was awarded a Buccaneer Challenge Coin for the incredible kindness and leadership he shows every single day.
Zach is the kind of student who quietly makes everything around him better — lending a hand, encouraging others, and putting people first without ever being asked. His teachers shared how his compassion and generosity make a real impact in their classroom, and this picture says it all: Zach surrounded by proud teachers and friends who see the difference he makes. 🌟
Congratulations, Zach! Thanks for leading with heart and showing what true Buccaneer character looks like. ⚓️💚💛

Meet Mrs. Lowrey, our amazing 6th Grade ELAR teacher at the Junior High! She’s passionate about helping students grow as readers, writers, and thinkers — and she brings heart, humor, and high expectations to her classroom every day.
🧠 Teaching Philosophy:
“My teaching philosophy centers around building genuine relationships with my students while guiding them to grow as readers, writers, and thinkers. I believe connection and content go hand in hand. When students know you care about them as individuals, they’re more willing to take risks, push themselves, and engage deeply in learning. I want my classroom to be a space where students feel motivated and challenged to reflect on their own lives and the world around them through literature and writing. My goal is for them to see reading and writing not just as schoolwork, but as powerful tools for understanding themselves and expressing their unique voices.”
💡 Favorite Lightbulb Moment:
“My absolute favorite lightbulb moment is when a student who claims they ‘don’t like reading’ finds that one book or selection that completely changes their perspective. (Oftentimes it is Diary of a Wimpy Kid that gets them reading… it is very relatable for middle schoolers!) You can literally see the shift. Their eyes light up, they want to talk about what’s happening, and suddenly they’re asking for the next book in the series. It is even more exhilarating when they take it a step further and write something inspired by what they’ve read. It is amazing to watch them view the world through a lens that is not their own! That’s when I know I’ve done my job.”
💚 Why She Loves ECISD:
“What I love most about teaching at ECISD is the incredible sense of community. My students are truly the heartbeat of my classroom! They make me laugh, challenge me, and inspire me every single day. I’m so proud of the relationships we build and the growth I get to witness throughout the year. On top of that, my colleagues and administrators make up the best work family I could ask for! We support, encourage, and cheer each other on, both inside and outside the classroom. ECISD isn’t just where I work, it’s where I feel at home. Every day is a great day to be a BUC!”

Today we’re spotlighting Keefer Miner, 3rd grade teacher at East Chambers Elementary!
Mrs. Miner believes that strong relationships are the heart of great teaching. She creates a classroom where every child feels valued, capable, and willing to take risks. Her philosophy? Students learn best when they’re engaged, see real-world connections, and know it’s okay to make mistakes—because mistakes mean growth. She uses data, observation, and intentional differentiation to help each child feel confident, curious, and ready to take on the world.
✨ Her Favorite Lightbulb Moment:
“It’s when I’m explaining something and a student suddenly says, ‘Ohhh!’ You can see the excitement in their eyes. That moment when understanding clicks with confidence reminds me that all the small steps lead to big growth.”
💛 Why She Loves Teaching at ECISD:
“ECISD feels like home. I grew up here from K–12, completed my student teaching here, and chose to stay because of the strong sense of community. ECISD is like a family—we support one another and build meaningful relationships with our students. Those connections motivate me every day and make this district such a special place to teach.”
Thank you, Mrs. Miner, for pouring your heart into Buccaneer Nation! 💚💛
