This week we’re featuring Tammy Bennett, who’s helping students tackle challenges and build confidence in math at the high school!
What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy centers on building strong relationships, maintaining high expectations, and creating a supportive environment where all students feel capable of success. I believe students learn best when they feel seen, valued, and challenged. I focus on making lessons engaging and relevant while providing multiple ways for students to understand the material.
What’s your favorite ‘lightbulb moment’ you see in students?
My favorite “lightbulb moment” is when a student who has been struggling suddenly makes the connection and gains confidence in their ability. In math, this often happens when they realize they can solve a problem they once thought was impossible. You can see the shift, not just in understanding, but in their attitude. That moment of confidence often leads to greater effort and willingness to take on challenges.
What do you love about teaching at ECISD?
I love the sense of community at ECISD and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students’ lives. The students bring diverse experiences and perspectives, which makes teaching both rewarding and dynamic. I also appreciate working alongside dedicated colleagues, especially the math department, who are committed to student success. Being part of a district that values growth and supports both students and teachers makes it a place where I’m proud to teach.

Rising Tide Recognition 🌊
Our Book Buddy volunteers are making a big difference in a small amount of time. Each week, they visit our elementary campus to listen to students read aloud, building confidence, literacy skills, and meaningful friendships. Whether stopping by on a work break or driving in from Beaumont, their dedication and encouragement help our students grow and shine.

This week we’re spotlighting Rene Hearn, who brings a passion for lifelong learning and Buccaneer pride to the classroom!
What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that learning is a lifelong activity and teaching our students to love learning is one of the greatest things a teacher can accomplish. The love of learning is so empowering for an adult in society today.
What’s your favorite ‘lightbulb moment’ you see in students?
My favorite lightbulb moment is when a student relates something we learned in class to an event or phenomenon that they are experiencing. The look on their faces is most rewarding when they say, “This is what we were talking about!”
What do you love about teaching at ECISD?
I honestly love everything about teaching at East Chambers. I have worked in many districts, but I love working at East Chambers best. I get to see my ex-students frequently and I have always been a Buccaneer.
We’re thankful for the passion and pride Ms. Hearn brings to our students and our district every day! 💚💛
Tonight, Coach Sutherland was presented with a special letter recognizing his 200 career victories during the board meeting. The letter was presented by Alex Zurby and his son, JD, making the moment even more meaningful.
The recognition comes from Bobbi Ann Brady, Member of Provincial Parliament for Haldimand–Norfolk in Ontario, honoring Coach Sutherland’s dedication to mentorship, leadership, and the lasting impact he’s made on young athletes. 👏🏈
