Principal Lezak proudly honored Koby Jones for bringing the Buccaneer Giving Tree idea to life. Thanks to his vision and generosity, our high school helped make Christmas brighter for younger Bucs—and every tree was gone within a few hours. Huge heart, huge impact, Koby!

Our students shared the gift of joy at The Arboretum this month. On December 9, Cosmetology students brightened residents’ days with manicures, conversation, and plenty of smiles. Then on December 17, our Elementary Student Council stopped by to spread holiday cheer with Christmas carols.
Students serving our seniors and strengthening our community.

This week, we’re highlighting Ariana Charles, a passionate educator dedicated to helping students grow academically and personally. Her classroom is a place where curiosity, connection, and confidence thrive.
🧠 Teaching Philosophy:
“I believe that strong relationships are the foundation of meaningful learning. By creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom community, students are more willing to participate, make mistakes, and grow. I strive to build trust, validate students' and honor their diverse perspectives. Learning is a collaborative journey, and I aim to model empathy, resilience and open-mindedness. When students feel connected to me, to each other, and to the content, they begin to develop both academic skills and a sense of belonging.”
💡 Favorite Lightbulb Moment:
“My favorite lightbulb moment happens when a student suddenly realizes they can do something that they immediately wrote off as impossible. When these moments happen I am reminded that learning is not only about mastering content it is also about helping students discover their own abilities.”
💚 Why I Love ECISD:
“I can say that teaching at EC has been the most impactful on my teaching journey. From coworkers to administration, I am surrounded by people who are always wanting the best from me and will help in any way they can. I feel at home here and I could not imagine teaching anywhere else!”
⚓💛 Ariana’s dedication and care make ECISD a place where every student can grow, learn, and thrive. 💚

Today we’re spotlighting someone who brings curiosity, confidence, and a whole lot of science magic to her students — Mrs. Parnell, 7th Grade Science teacher!
🧪 Her Teaching Philosophy
“As a junior high science teacher, my aim is to cultivate curiosity, confidence, and critical thinking in every student. I believe that students learn science best when they feel safe to ask questions, explore new ideas, and even make mistakes as part of their learning process. Junior high is a pivotal time when students begin forming their identity as learners and I always try to make my classroom a space where my students can see themselves as capable investigators of the world around them. Ultimately, my goal is to inspire a lifelong interest in science by nurturing each student's wonder, perseverance, and sense of belonging. When students leave my classroom, I want them to feel empowered to ask questions, seek evidence, and approach challenges with curiosity and confidence.”
💡 Her Favorite Lightbulb Moment
“My favorite lightbulb moments are those moments when students can connect what we are learning about in science class to their life and their world. I love when they see a phenomenon happen right in front of them and suddenly understand the concept behind it. This week we were learning about thermal equilibrium and why ice melts in a drink and they got so excited when they understood why! The moment they understand why something happens and not just what happens, their whole perspective changes. That instant where confusion turns to clarity is amazing to watch! When students see science as useful and relevant to them and what is happening around them, that's when real learning happens! The look of ‘OH, I get it now’ never gets old!”
💛 Why She Loves Teaching at ECISD
“What I love most about teaching at EC is that EC has created an environment where everyone, students and staff, feels valued and connected. I love our shared commitment to doing what is best for our students. I appreciate working in a place that celebrates different backgrounds, perspectives, and strengths. It's inspiring to work with people who lift each other up and treat each other with respect.”
Mrs. Parnell brings the perfect mix of curiosity, compassion, and pride to our campus. She doesn’t just teach science — she helps students see themselves as thinkers, problem-solvers, and doers. We’re proud to have her leading the way and lighting up learning at ECJH!

In November, our 2nd graders dived into the world of 3D shapes! 🟦🔺🟢 From cubes to cones, students explored, built, and played their way to understanding how shapes exist all around us. Learning about 3D shapes helps students see the world in new ways—whether stacking blocks, designing projects, or noticing shapes in everyday life. Fun + learning = a perfect combo! ✨

Today we’re celebrating Zach Richey, who was awarded a Buccaneer Challenge Coin for the incredible kindness and leadership he shows every single day.
Zach is the kind of student who quietly makes everything around him better — lending a hand, encouraging others, and putting people first without ever being asked. His teachers shared how his compassion and generosity make a real impact in their classroom, and this picture says it all: Zach surrounded by proud teachers and friends who see the difference he makes. 🌟
Congratulations, Zach! Thanks for leading with heart and showing what true Buccaneer character looks like. ⚓️💚💛
