Teacher Talks Tuesday 🍎⚽

This week we’re featuring Coach Baker! From building strong habits on the primary campus to coaching the girls soccer team at the high school, she’s all about helping students grow in confidence, teamwork, and resilience.

What is your teaching philosophy?
As a physical education teacher, my philosophy is to inspire students to develop lifelong habits of health, fitness, and well-being. I believe physical education is not just about sports or physical activity—it is about building confidence, resilience, teamwork, and respect for oneself and others.

What’s your favorite ‘lightbulb moment’ you see in students?
My favorite “lightbulb moments” are those small but powerful breakthroughs when a student suddenly gets it—physically, socially, or emotionally. These moments are often more about confidence and understanding than just skill.

What do you love about teaching at ECISD?
I love everything about working at ECISD. We have the best kids, a great working atmosphere and community support. As a graduate from East Chambers, getting to work at East Chambers holds a very special place in my heart.

We’re grateful for the heart, energy, and positivity Coach Baker brings to our students every single day! 💚💛

🌟 Teacher Talks Tuesday 🌟
This week we’re featuring Joanna Martinez. She is the Principles of Education teacher, TEACH coordinator, and an assistant soccer coach. She’s passionate about helping students discover their strengths, explore the world of education, and grow into confident leaders both in and out of the classroom. 🍎⚽

1️⃣ What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe every student has the potential to make an impact, and my role is to help them discover their strengths and passions. In Principles of Education and Instructional Practices, I focus on helping students not just learn content, but also develop the skills and mindset needed to become effective educators. I emphasize hands-on learning, collaboration, and reflection so students can connect theory to real-world teaching experiences.

💡 2️⃣ What’s your favorite ‘lightbulb moment’ you see in students?
My favorite moments are when students realize they can make a difference in someone else’s learning. Seeing a student successfully plan a lesson, lead a discussion, or assist a peer with confidence—that “aha” moment when they understand their own potential as future educators—is incredibly rewarding. Even small breakthroughs in understanding teaching strategies or classroom management can light up the room!

💚 3️⃣ What do you love about teaching at ECISD?
ECISD is an amazing district because it truly values innovation, support, and student growth. I love the collaboration among teachers and the opportunities to help students explore education as a career. Coming back to teach at the school I graduated from has been especially meaningful—it’s something I’ve always wanted. Being part of a community that encourages creativity, hands-on learning, and student engagement makes every day exciting.

✨ Special/Interesting:
Even in my second year, I’ve seen how much impact teachers can have beyond academics—helping students find confidence, leadership, and a sense of purpose. I love being part of that journey and sharing my own experiences as both a teacher and a coach.

💛 Thank you, Ms. Martinez, for inspiring future educators, supporting students beyond the classroom, and investing in the next generation of leaders at ECISD!

Green & Gold Greats 💚💛

We’re celebrating two outstanding Buccaneers who were recognized with Buccaneer Challenge Coins!

Galileo Olalde was presented a challenge coin from Ms, Kahla. He went above and beyond during recess when he noticed trash on the playground and chose to stop what he was doing to clean it up—even though it wasn’t his. That simple act showed responsibility, pride in our school, and genuine kindness. Way to lead by example, Galileo!

Mrs. Jordan proudly presented Josie Crook with a challenge coin for consistently being a hard worker, actively participating in class, and going the extra mile in her schoolwork. She’s thoughtful, kind, and always willing to help others. Keep shining, Josie!

We are proud of both of you for showing what it truly means to be Buccaneers! ⚓

Due to a recent change in the state’s Academic UIL schedule for next year, the Board has approved a revision to the previously adopted school calendar. Spring Break for the 2026–27 school year will now be held on March 22-26, 2027. The updated calendar is below.

This adjustment was necessary to avoid a conflict with UIL competition dates. As ECISD both hosts and has students participating in these events, we needed to make this change.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause for our staff and families and appreciate your understanding.

Big congratulations are in order for East Chambers ISD Child Nutrition Department! 🎉

We’re proud to celebrate our district earning the Best of the Bunch Award at Megacon Farm Fresh Challenge! This recognition highlights an incredible commitment to serving fresh, local foods and providing meaningful nutrition education for our students.

To earn this award, our Child Nutrition team:
🍎 Served three different local foods representing three meal components each week during October
📚 Hosted weekly educational activities during the challenge
📱 Shared the journey through social media

This achievement wouldn’t be possible without the leadership of Marsha Peden, our Child Nutrition Director, and the dedication of every member of our child nutrition staff. Their hard work fuels our students each day and makes a real difference in our schools.

Please join us in congratulating Marsha and the entire Child Nutrition team for this outstanding accomplishment! 💚🍏 #BestOfTheBunch #ChildNutrition #TexasSchools
