Small group lessons give teachers time to focus on specific skills, tailor instruction to students’ needs, and provide more opportunities for participation and feedback.
In these classroom snapshots, Mrs. Shawn Broussard leads a small group lesson, while a high school TEACH student assists learners in Mrs. Diana Cook’s classroom!
Our high school TEACH class is part of the CTE Teaching and Training program, which introduces students to careers in education. Experiences like these help future educators see how personalized support helps young learners grow. 💚💛

To follow-up on the evacuation at ECHS, we want to provide this update.
Earlier today, a small electrical fire occurred in the Innovative
Studies Building, which houses two classrooms. Students and staff were
safely evacuated and the fire was extinguished. First responders gave
us the all clear and students returned to class. Dismissal took place
at the normal time.
We want to thank our first responders for their prompt response, our
students and staff for their calm and quick evacuation, and our
parents for their patience and understanding during the emergency.
The two classes housed in the building will move to another building
for the immediate future.

A fire has occurred at East Chambers High School. All students and staff are safe and unharmed. All students have been safely evacuated. Emergency personnel are responding, and we will share additional information with families as it becomes available.

For Mrs. Graff, 5th grade math is about building skills and helping students feel brave enough to try! This week, she shares how high expectations, encouragement, and room to make mistakes help students grow.
💚 Her teaching philosophy:
“I believe every student is capable of learning, growing, and improving. Students learn best when they understand the purpose behind what they are learning, are actively engaged, and know that their teacher has high expectations for their success.
“I believe in being honest with students about academic and behavioral expectations while providing the support and encouragement they need to meet those expectations. I want my students to understand that mistakes are a natural part of learning and that growth comes from effort, perseverance, and a willingness to learn.
“My goal is to help students become the best version of themselves, both academically and socially. I encourage students to recognize their strengths, understand how they learn best, and use that knowledge to improve their learning outcomes. Ultimately, I want my students to leave my classroom with stronger math skills, greater confidence, and the belief that they are capable of achieving their goals.”
💡 Her favorite lightbulb moment:
“I had a student two years ago write a note that said that I made her feel brave in math. That was the goal all along, to see a struggling student no longer be afraid of getting something wrong, but being brave enough to put themselves out there to learn something that they previously thought was impossible.”

“Moving to ECISD in 2021 has been the single-most impactful decision that I have made in my teaching career. I love seeing the school spirit and the students’ excitement to walk in the doors every morning.”

As part of their nonfiction studies about animals, students learned about owls before putting that knowledge to work dissecting owl pellets. They discovered skulls, jawbones, and vertebrae, getting a close-up look at evidence of what owls eat!
An exciting way to connect nonfiction learning with hands-on discovery! 💚💛

Students used their designs to explain plot, theme, characterization, and more, turning their understanding of a story into something they could wear.
One student summed up the excitement: “This probably will be my favorite shirt from now on.”
Bringing books to life with a little creativity and plenty of Buccaneer style! 💚💛

On Friday, October 16, 2026, our 3rd graders had an incredible hands-on learning experience exploring hydroponics with DillyLilly Farm! A huge shout-out to Nicky for coming to teach our students all about how hydroponic systems work.
Did you know that farm visits and garden learning tie into EVERY subject in the classroom? Look at what our 3rd graders experienced across the curriculum:
📏 MATH: Measuring seed spacing during planting and tracking plant growth over time.
🔬 SCIENCE: Exploring and mapping the compost decomposition process that fertilizes garden plants.
🌍 SOCIAL STUDIES: Learning about global agriculture and how different cultures grow and eat food.
✍️ ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS: Writing poetry inspired by plant growth and garden wildlife.
🎨 FINE ARTS: Drawing, painting garden scenes, and creating videos of their gardening experiences.
🍎 HEALTH EDUCATION: Tasting fresh fruits and vegetables while learning about nutrient benefits.

🎈🚀 The Learning Deck! 🔬💚💛
Mrs. Ericson’s 5th grade scientists had a BLAST learning about force and motion with balloon rockets! 🚀
Students conducted an investigation, collected data, and gathered evidence to discover how the force of escaping air causes a balloon to change its motion. They also tested different balloon sizes to see how the amount of air affected the balloon rocket’s movement.
We love seeing our Buccaneers learning through hands-on investigations, asking questions, and using evidence to make discoveries! Way to go, Mrs. Ericson and our 5th grade scientists! 🧪🎈🚀

“My teaching philosophy is that the greatest reward you can earn from school is the appreciation of life-long learning. Whether it is learning to follow a career passion, a personal hobby, or for a high score in trivia, the accumulation of knowledge is one of the most gratifying aspects of life.”
💡 What is your favorite student “lightbulb” moment?
“My favorite lightbulb moment that I have seen in students is the moment when they become personally interested in the content we are learning, and proud of their ability to not only understand the content, but enjoy it.”

“I love the camaraderie at ECISD. The kindness, humor, and passion is truly unrivaled.”
