Our school nurses do so much more than hand out bandaids and ice packs. They are caregivers, calm in the chaos, problem-solvers, comforters, advocates, and often the first safe place a student turns during a hard day. From managing medications and medical emergencies to supporting students, staff, and families with compassion and care, their impact reaches far beyond the clinic walls.
And for two of our amazing nurses, the care doesn’t stop there — they also step into the classroom to teach and inspire our high school students each day. Their dedication to both healthcare and education is truly something special.

This week we’re shining the spotlight on Lindsey McDonald, who brings creativity, color, and confidence to our elementary students every day!
What is your teaching philosophy?
I love the whole creative process and seeing a student get excited about art. They often tell me I just want to stay here all day and work on this. Art in all its forms is a knowledge and love and skill they can take with them all their lives and continue to appreciate.
What's your favorite 'lightbulb moment' you see in students?
My favorite lightbulb moment is when students stop worrying about making their art "perfect" and start feeling proud of their own ideas. I love seeing them take a risk, try something new, or turn a mistake into part of their artwork. You can see their confidence shift from "I can't do this" to "wait, I actually like this." That moment reminds me how powerful art can be in helping students see that they are creative, capable, and that their voice matters.
What do you love about teaching at ECISD?
I love this school because it feels like home. This is where I grew up, so it is really special to now be a part of it from the teaching side. I love getting to pour back into the same school community that helped shape me. Being able to watch students grow, build confidence, and find their own creativity here makes it even more meaningful.
