🏀⚽ Teacher Talks Tuesday 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

From the gym floor to the sidelines, this Teacher Talks Tuesday spotlight goes to one of our elementary PE teachers and coaches, Ms. Cossey, who knows that movement builds more than muscles—it builds confidence, character, and grit. 💪💚💛

What is your teaching philosophy?
My philosophy centers on creating a positive, inclusive environment where students of all abilities feel capable, valued, and motivated to grow. Whether working with young elementary students or competitive high school athletes, my goal is the same: to help students develop confidence, character, and a genuine appreciation for healthy, active living.

What’s your favorite ‘lightbulb moment’ you see in students?
My favorite lightbulb moment is when a student finally masters a skill we’ve been practicing for weeks. We break it down through games, activities, and daily modeling. The student may struggle at first, but they keep trying because of the supportive environment. They listen to feedback, make small adjustments, and gradually those changes add up until the skill clicks.

The best part is the reaction in the gym — the excitement from classmates and the pride on the student’s face. In that moment, it’s not just about the skill anymore. It’s a child realizing that effort, practice, and listening to feedback truly work. That’s the exact moment learning becomes empowering — and why teaching elementary PE is so rewarding.

What do you love about teaching at ECISD?
What I love most about teaching/coaching at ECISD is that your influence is visible. I’m helping shape not just athletes or students, but confident, capable people. That kind of impact is deeply fulfilling. Our community plays a giant role in making this possible. They are supportive always show up, willing to help in any way possible. I love that and you just can't find that anywhere else.

🏴‍☠️ This is what Buccaneer pride looks like—teaching perseverance, celebrating growth, and reminding students that effort pays off. We’re lucky to have Ms. Cosset who coaches hearts just as much as skills. 💚💛

The kick you’ve been waiting for! 💥

Our Culinary Arts students are cooking up next-level learning—and next-level lunch. They created a No-Salt, No-Sugar Chicken Parmesan Sandwich, using only herbs and spices to bring the flavor. 🌿🔥

Judged by Mr. Heironimus and our Child Nutrition team, this student-made creation passed the ultimate test: so good, it’s going on the menu. 🏆💚💛

We’re incredibly thankful to have the Chambers County Youth Project Show (CCYPS) right here in our community and for the impact it has on East Chambers ISD students.

CCYPS is the only youth project show in Texas that returns 100% of its income directly back to participating students. Through livestock and exhibit projects, our students gain real-world skills like responsibility, financial literacy, perseverance, and leadership—skills that stick long after show season ends.

Because of strong community support, East Chambers students are learning, growing, and building opportunities for their future. That’s something to celebrate. 💚💛

🍎✨ Teacher Talks Tuesday!
Meet Mrs. Spencer, one of our amazing 3rd grade teachers! Her teaching philosophy centers on putting students first:

"I believe every child comes to the classroom with unique strengths, needs, and experiences. My role as a teacher is to meet them where they are and challenge them to grow academically, socially and emotionally. I focus on meeting the needs of all students by getting to know them as individuals and using data and observations to guide my instruction. I strive to create a positive, welcoming classroom where students feel confident, supported, and excited to learn."

Her favorite moments? When a student suddenly realizes, “Hey, I got this!” That spark of confidence is what reminds her why she became a teacher.

"The thing I love about teaching at ECISD is that it is a district where students and staff are challenged to succeed and celebrated at every opportunity. It is a community where every person is valued and invested in helping each other reach their full potential."

We’re so grateful for Mrs. Spencer and all she does to make our classrooms a place where students shine! 💚💛

Before the Christmas holidays, every student at our Primary and Elementary campuses went home with brand-new books thanks to the My Home Library program from the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, made possible by the generosity of 1PointFive.
These books aren’t just holiday gifts—they’re investments in literacy, imagination, and lifelong learning. We’re grateful for community partners who believe that every child deserves a home filled with books and stories. 📚💚
Thank you for helping us put books directly into the hands of our students!

🍎⚓ Teacher Talks Tuesday ⚓🍎
Today we’re spotlighting Mrs. Selby, our Primary campus Behavior Specialist and 7th & 8th grade girls athletics coach. From the classroom to the court, she’s helping students grow with confidence, care, and resilience 💚💛

“I believe students must feel loved and safe before meaningful learning can take place. When children feel secure, they are more willing to learn, grow, and take risks. I focus on teaching social skills and coping strategies through hands-on, real-life role-playing so students can practice skills they will carry with them throughout their lives. My classroom is a safe space where all emotions are accepted, and students know there is nothing they can say or do that will ever change how much they are cared for.

Because we work with the youngest students in the district, we have a unique opportunity to build a strong foundation for their growth into productive, well-rounded adults. One quote that reflects my philosophy is, ‘They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.’ My goal is not just to teach, but to ensure every child comes to school knowing they are loved, supported, and that someone is truly excited they are there.

My ‘light bulb’ moment is when I see a student independently use a coping skill or appropriately ask for a break during a stressful situation. These moments show real growth—when a student replaces their usual reactive behaviors with learned strategies. It is in these small but powerful moments that I know the skills we practice are making a lasting difference.

I love everything about not just the school, but the entire community. This campus became exactly what I needed in my life before I even realized I needed it. The staff has become more like family, and the administration is incredibly supportive. I often tell people that I think I need my students’ hugs and smiles every day more than they need me at times—they truly make this place feel like home.”

💚💛⚓ We are incredibly thankful for Mrs. Selby and the compassion, consistency, and heart she brings to our district every single day. Our students—and our Buccaneer family—are better because of her.
