🌟 Teacher Talks Tuesday 🌟
This week we’re featuring Joanna Martinez. She is the Principles of Education teacher, TEACH coordinator, and an assistant soccer coach. She’s passionate about helping students discover their strengths, explore the world of education, and grow into confident leaders both in and out of the classroom. 🍎⚽
1️⃣ What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe every student has the potential to make an impact, and my role is to help them discover their strengths and passions. In Principles of Education and Instructional Practices, I focus on helping students not just learn content, but also develop the skills and mindset needed to become effective educators. I emphasize hands-on learning, collaboration, and reflection so students can connect theory to real-world teaching experiences.
💡 2️⃣ What’s your favorite ‘lightbulb moment’ you see in students?
My favorite moments are when students realize they can make a difference in someone else’s learning. Seeing a student successfully plan a lesson, lead a discussion, or assist a peer with confidence—that “aha” moment when they understand their own potential as future educators—is incredibly rewarding. Even small breakthroughs in understanding teaching strategies or classroom management can light up the room!
💚 3️⃣ What do you love about teaching at ECISD?
ECISD is an amazing district because it truly values innovation, support, and student growth. I love the collaboration among teachers and the opportunities to help students explore education as a career. Coming back to teach at the school I graduated from has been especially meaningful—it’s something I’ve always wanted. Being part of a community that encourages creativity, hands-on learning, and student engagement makes every day exciting.
✨ Special/Interesting:
Even in my second year, I’ve seen how much impact teachers can have beyond academics—helping students find confidence, leadership, and a sense of purpose. I love being part of that journey and sharing my own experiences as both a teacher and a coach.
💛 Thank you, Ms. Martinez, for inspiring future educators, supporting students beyond the classroom, and investing in the next generation of leaders at ECISD!
