Community Partnership Brings Books Home for Primary and Elementary Students

Before the Christmas holidays, every student at the district’s Primary and Elementary campuses received brand-new books to take home, thanks to the My Home Library program from the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, made possible by the generous support of 1PointFive.

students with booksThrough the My Home Library initiative, children in high-need communities are gifted new, high-quality books to build personal home libraries—encouraging reading beyond the classroom and helping families support early literacy at home. Each book is chosen to inspire curiosity, strengthen reading skills, and foster a lifelong love of learning.

The partnership reflects a shared commitment to ensuring students have equitable access to books, especially during the holiday season when learning opportunities outside of school can vary widely. By placing books directly into students’ hands, the program helps bridge gaps in access and supports literacy development at a critical age.

District leaders expressed appreciation for community partners who recognize the lasting impact of early literacy and invest in students’ futures. Programs like My Home Library reinforce the idea that strong readers are built not only in classrooms, but at home—one book at a time.

The district is grateful to the Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation and 1PointFive for their continued support of students and families, and for helping create meaningful learning opportunities that extend beyond the school day.
