January is Board Appreciation Month, and we want to take a moment to recognize the seven members of our Board of Trustees for the hard work they do on behalf of every student, family, and staff member in our district.
We’re especially grateful for the depth of service represented at the table:
• Mr. Scott Jones, Board President – 29 years
• Mrs. Lisa Bauer, Vice President – 11 years
• Ms. Charlotte Edwards, Secretary – 6 years
• Mr. Frank Abalos – 5 years
• Mr. Kelley Touchet – 5 years
• Mr. Everett Guillory – 3 years
• Mr. Jason Gardner – 1 year
School boards don’t just show up — they govern. In Texas, local school trustees are entrusted by voters in our community to provide meaningful oversight and leadership that directly impacts how our schools succeed. That means they:
• Set goals and priorities and monitor progress toward them.
• Adopt policies that guide how our schools operate.
• Hire, support, and evaluate the superintendent.
• Approve our budget and tax rate with an eye on students and taxpayers.
• Serve as a vital communication link between the schools and the community.
These responsibilities are not ceremonial — they’re central to strong local control of public education and reflect the trust our community has placed in these volunteer leaders.
Thank you to our board members for stepping up, asking the tough questions, and helping steer our district forward with integrity and purpose. Our schools are stronger because you show up.
