Cross Country ran in their season opener at Hemphill on Wednesday, Aug. 26 under the direction of Coach Todd Sutherland.

In the boys division, freshman Javier Granados placed 1st and Jason Skinner at 2nd. Sophomore Xavi Martinez placed 4th, junior Drew Frederick placed 16th, and freshman Thiago Martinez placed 20th out of over 100 runners.

In the girls division, senior Mikeala Quave finished 5th. Freshman Isabella Herrera placed 9th, junior Giselle Santana finished 14th, freshmen Rush Todd and Natalie Padron placed 16th and 20th.

“The boys’ and the girls’ teams both competed at a very high level for this early in the year,” Sutherland said. “The runners fought through the heat and a very hilly course which was not easy.”

JV and Varsity cross country teams will run in Broaddus for their next meet on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
