4th Grade UIL Events

Tryouts, meetings, and practices may be scheduled before or after school to
accommodate students who wish to participate in more than one event. Your child may
try out for any event they are interested in. Sign-up sheets will be available. Once teams
are chosen, coaches will send specific event information. GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Number Sense – Nelius
Students are expected to compute math problems mentally. Number Sense tryouts
are held during each Math class during the week of September 26-30. For students
selected to participate in Number Sense, practices will be held on Mondays from 3:45 to
4:45.

Spelling – Tiner
Words are called out and the student spells the word neatly and correctly. Students
who are interested in trying out for Spelling should get with Ms. Tinder to receive a list of
words to study. Spelling tryouts will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at 7:30.

Oral Reading – Smith
Students will read a selection with expression. Try-outs will be held next week
according to this schedule:

Smith/Lenderman Monday, September 19 7:30-8:15
Nelius/Tiner Tuesday, September 20 7:30-8:15
Cuniff/Martin Thursday, September 22 7:30-8:15

Ready Writing – Lenderman
Students will be given a prompt and write an essay. Students trying out should
complete one essay each week during the weeks of September 19-23, September 26-30,
and October 3-7. Please see Mrs. Lenderman before school to get prompts.

Art – McDonald
Students will study selected works of art and should be able to spell the name of
the art and the artist correctly. Try-outs will be held next week on Tuesday, September 20
and Thursday, September 22 at 7:30 in the Art classroom.

Music Memory - Moore

Students will listen to selected music and must be able to know the name of the
selection and the composer. Mrs. Moore will have try-outs before school during the
weeks of September 19 and September 26. Please get with Mrs. Moore for more details.

Chess – McDonald
Students will look at a picture of chess and be asked multiple choice questions
about moves, strategies, and terms. Try-outs will be held next week on Wednesday,
September 21 and Friday, September 23 at 7:30 in the Art classroom.
