3rd Grade UIL Information
Tryouts, meetings, and practices may be scheduled before or after school to accommodate students who wish to participate in more than one event. Your child may try out for any event they are interested in. Sign-up sheets will be available. Once teams are chosen, coaches will send specific event information. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
*Math - Palacios Students are expected to compute math problems mentally. Math tryouts will be held on Thursday Sept. 22, 2022 during math class. For students selected to participate in math, practices will be held each morning 7:30-8:00. Students can eat breakfast while working on their spelling program.
*Spelling – Bordeaux Words are called out and the student spells the word neatly and correctly. Spelling tryouts will be held @7:30 am in Mrs. Bordeaux’s room September 27th. For students selected to participate in Spelling, practices will be held each morning 7:30-8:00. Students can eat breakfast while working on their spelling program. It is a computer generated program and is self paced. The more mornings you can make the more successful your child will be. If your child cannot make the morning practices they can work at home, if you have a computer for them. The school will not provide this.
*Storytelling - Miner Students will listen to a storyteller read a brief story and then retell that story in their own words. A note with try-out day and time will be sent home with each child who is interested in trying out. For students selected to participate in Storytelling, practices will be held Tuesdays from 3:45-4:45.
*Ready Writing – Jordan Students will be given a prompt and write an essay. Try-outs will be held September 26th, 27th, or 28th from 7:30-8:15. For students selected to participate in Ready Writing, practices will be held Tuesdays at 7:30am.
*Music Memory- Miner Students will listen to selected music and must be able to know the name of the selection and the composer. Try-outs will be held September 29th at 7:30am. For students selected to participate in Music Memory, practices will be held Tuesdays from 3:45-4:45.
*Chess – McDonald Students will look at a picture of chess and be asked multiple choice questions about moves, strategies, and terms. Try-outs will be held next week on Wednesday, September 21 and Friday, September 23 at 7:30 in the Art classroom.
