Intermediate/Junior High Six Weeks Superstars

The Six Weeks Superstars for Intermediate and Junior High campuses are students selected by a majority vote from teachers for their outstanding performance at school. A boy and a girl from each grade level is selected. During the student's awarded six weeks, they are able to go to lunch 2 minutes early and will attend a special luncheon in their honor.

Fifth Six Week's Superstars are  5th: Evelyn Rojas & Adrian Rodriguez; 6th: Skyler Spencer & Ty Portier; 7th: Virgina Lopez & Cecilio Lopez; 8th: Leslee Harmon & Trevor Franzen.

Fourth Six Week's Superstars were not chosen.

Eighth Graders Recognized at Annual Banquet

The annual Eighth Grade Banquet was held on May 14, 2011, in the Winnie-Stowell Community Building. Students were recognized for outstanding achievement in academics and athletics. Some of the night's recognitions included Highest Ranking Boy – Jacob Sims; Highest Ranking Girl – Carley Devillier; Top 10 (alphabetical) – Samantha Aguirre, Leslee Harmon, Jami Lavergne, Morgan Lewis, Ana Martinez, Natalie Spencer, Justin Thompson, and Kasey Touchet. Also recognized were Outstanding 8th Grade Boy – Josh Britnell and Outstanding 8th Grade Girl – Morgan Lewis.

Junior High Band Receives Superior Ratinigs

The EC Junior High Band competed in the Anahuac Pre-UIL competition and received a Superior Performance from all three judges. The first division performance earned the students the Showcase of Music Festival trophy.

Annual Career Day Held for Eighth Grade Students

On February 23, 2011, East Chambers Junior High held its annual Career Day for eighth grade students. The event began with an assembly and Mr. Mark Viator of Partnership Strategies spoke on how to become a good employee and what employers look for in employees. Then students met professionals from various career fields who spoke on the future opportunities that education creates. Students heard 20 professionals speak about their workplace, education, skills, and personal stories.

National Junior Honor Society Collects Stuffed Animals
NJHS has been collecting stuffed animals for the Chambers County Sheriffs Department as their service project for the month of January. Sheriff Joe LaRive, District Attorney Cheryl Lieck, and DARE officer Nachelle Bonin accepted the collection on behalf of Chambers County.  Mrs. Cheryl Williams and Ms. Whitney DeYoung are the sponsors.

Johnson Selected National Sunday School Teacher of the Year
John Johnson

Pastor Griffin of Cornerstone Church nominated John Johnson for the South District Teacher of the Year, and Mr. Johnson was selected to receive this honor. All district winners were then  nominated for the National Teacher of the Year award which Mr. Johnson was also selected to receive.

Since 1995, the National Sunday School Office has awarded the Billie Davis Award for Excellence in Christian Education to Sunday School teachers who faithfully contribute to a high standard of discipleship as they teach God’s Word to God’s people.

 

The Billie Davis Award of Excellence in Christian Education was named after and first presented to Dr. Billie Davis, author and Christian educator, who has given many years of her life to uplifting the teaching ministry in the church.

A plaque with the honorees’ names is displayed at the Assemblies of God headquarters in Springfield, Missouri.

After the second and final day of competition, East Chambers won the overall Sweepstakes with 538 points followed by Buna with 381 points, Anahuac 332, Warren 254, Deweyville 238, Kountze 127, and Hardin 91. In addition to winning the overall sweepstakes, East Chambers also won the individual grade levels - 6th, 7th, and 8th. Junior High & Intermediate Students Attend Incentive Assembly

Fifth through eighth grade students attended their first incentive assembly of the year today, November 9, 2010. During the first six weeks, students who were on the A, A-B honor rolls and/or had perfect attendance had their names submitted for the possibility of being drawn for incentive prizes. There were 25 prizes available, and 25 drawings were held. Prizes included a variety of educational and thought-provoking games.


Mrs. Brawner Chosen for Environmental Education Award
Renee Brawner

Renee Brawner, who teaches 8th Grade Science at East Chambers Junior High, has been chosen to receive The Environmental Education Award which is presented to an organization or individual for outstanding efforts in bringing environmental awareness to the classroom. Mrs. Brawner is responsible for the outdoor classroom at Crenshaw School and at East Chambers ISD.Since 1997, the Citizens’ Environmental Coalition has hosted the annual Synergy Awards Luncheon in Houston to recognize local individuals and organizations for their notable environmental projects and achievements. Mrs. Brawner will be recognized at the luncheon on November 3 at the Houston Racquet Club.


TRF Poster Contest Winners at Intermediate and Junior High

Eighth Grade Awards Banquet Held

The Eighth Grade Awards Banquet was held in the Community Building on May 15, 2010. The invocation was led by Caleb Sims followed by a meal of fajitas with all of the trimmings. Mr. Bob Wheat presented awards from the Chambers County Historical Commission Annual Essay Contest to Andrew McGovern and Brandon Johnson. Class Awards presented by various teachers followed. Ms. DeYoung and Mrs. Williams presented Perfect Attendance, A/B Honor Roll and All “A” Honor Roll to students. Ms. Rainey presented awards for Top 10%, Highest Ranking Student, 2nd Highest Ranking Student, Outstanding 8th Grade Boy, and Outstanding 8th Grade Girl.

2010-2011 National Junior Honor Society Members Inducted

The National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is one of the nation's premier organizations established to recognize middle level students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character, and Citizenship. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its  beginnings in 1929.

The 2010-2011 NJHS members were selected and they are:  Haley Bollinger, Josh Britnell, Tyler Crone, Carley Devillier, Natalie Devillier, Trevor Franzen, LesLee Harmon, Danalicia Leday, Morgan Lewis, Esmerelda Lopez, Victor Lopez, Andrea Machial, Ana Martinez, Ezequiel Rodriguez, Lucita Rodriguez, Jacob Sims, Natalie Spencer, Kasey Touchet, Michayla Weisse, Taylor Wheat, and Justin Yawn.

The Induction Ceremony was held on May 11, 2010, in the high school auditorium. Jaxon Vanya lead attendees in the pledge of allegiance and Andrew McGovern welcomed everyone. Seventh Grade Student Receives State Recognition
Jacob Sims

Jacob Sims, an East Chambers Junior High 7th grade student, has received State Recognition by the Duke University Talent Identification Program. Students are selected to participate in the Talent Search and take the SAT or ACT based on a high level of achievement on the TAKS test. To be recognized at the state level, a seventh grade student must score above average (50%) for high school juniors and seniors on the SAT or the ACT tests. A student qualifying for State Recognition is in the top 30% of the Talent Search pool for the entire nation. Jacob will be honored at a ceremony held at Lamar University on Saturday May 22nd.


Junior High and Intermediate Enjoy TAKS Pep Rally
TAKS Pep Rally

Junior High and Intermediate students have been preparing for their TAKS tests all year, and they had the opportunity to get a break from their studies in the form of a pep rally. The "survivor" style pep rally was held Monday, April 26, 2010, in the junior high gym. Students enjoyed participating in various grade-level games, as well as enjoyed the festive atmosphere and teacher participation, as well as words of encouragement from Principal Rainey.


Therapy Dog in Training

On Monday, March 22, the Therapy Dog in Training program began at East Chambers Junior High. Gypsy was officially introduced to 5th-8th graders at an assembly. Students were given instructions on how to approach Gypsy, give her “hugs and kisses," and treats. She will work primarily with Mrs. Shepherd’s classes to get acclimated to a school setting. She will come to school a couple of days each week to continue the training process. Gypsy’s first day of school was a huge success; she has performed her duties well and enjoyed all the love and attention she got from “her” EC students. Mr. and Mrs. Shepherd and Gypsy would like to thank all of East Chambers for giving them the opportunity to serve the students and the community.

Tryouts for the 2010-2011 Junior High Cheerleading squad were held on Friday, February 25, 2010. The results are:  Haley Bollinger, Jessi Choate, Hannah Daniel, Leslee Harmon, Danalicia Leday, Morgan Lewis, Shaina Matthews, Kristen Rodriguez, Destinee Simon, Natalie Spencer, Kasey Touchet, and Michayla Weisse.

The squad will be conducting a fund raiser which will be a raffle for a shotgun. Tickets are $5.00 and can be purchased from any newly elected junior high cheerleader. The drawing will be held March 26, and tickets must be turned in by March 24.

2009 Conservation Poster Winners Selected
Each year students from East Chambers participate in the Trinity Bay Soil and Water Conservation District's poster contest. The theme for the 2009 poster contest was “Dig-it” The Secrets of Soil, which covered the resource that truly is this nation’s foundation - soil. The poster entries were judged at the local level by the Trinity Bay Soil and Water Conservation District #434 with winners being sent on to area-level competition. Ultimately, the state winner will be selected from the winners of the five area competitions.

The poster contest is designed to demonstrate the importance of conservation and taking care of one’s surroundings while giving contestants an opportunity to express their artistic ability.

This year's local winners of the conservation poster contest are 1st place, Sonia Netro; 2nd place, Maegan Sonnier, and 3rd place, Yuliana Sosa, all 5th grade students at East Chambers Intermediate School. Their sponsoring teacher is Mrs. Kristy Little.
 


Junior High OAP Wins Honors

Members of the East Chambers Junior High One-Act Play, All in Disguise, a “Tour de Farce” in Commedia Style, competed for district in Kountze on February 17, 2010. All in Disguise is a fast-paced escapade which follows the adventures and misadventures of Pipporello and Marco, two vagabonds, as they breeze along in search of riches, romance and – their next meal.

The performance was chosen first place play among the competition. Individual honors were also awarded for Best Actress: Lucita Rodriguez as Signora Pantalone; Best Actor: Jaxon Vanya as Pipporello; All-star Cast: Tristan Bertrand as Flavio; Taylor Wheat as Florinda; James Lowrance as Marco, Kristen Rodriguez as Colombina (honorable mention); and All-star Crew: Amy Harrington and Hannah Daniel. Other crew members were: Guy Davis and Jessi Choate. Sponsors are Sabrina Ashworth and Kellie Rogers.

The Buccaneers of the Month for Intermediate and Junior High campuses are students selected by a majority vote from teachers for their outstanding performance at school. A boy and a girl from each grade level is selected. During the student's awarded month, they are able to go to lunch 2 minutes early and will attend a special luncheon in their honor.

The November Buccaneers of the Month were:  5th Grade - Trevor Thomas, Skyler Spencer; 6th Grade - Darius Guillory, Sydney Long; 7th Grade - Cristino Netro, Natalie Spencer; and 8th Grade - Blane Rhodes, Breelee LeBlanc. October's Bucs of the Month were Ty Potier, Madison Racca, Hallie Self, Blake Nugent, Leslee Harmon, Alaina Potter, Justin Yawn, and Andrew McGovern. September's Bucs of the Month were Cecilio Lopez, Collin McGovern, Bailey Seal, Jacob Sims, Carly Devillier, Caleb Sims, and Amy Harrington.

The EC National Junior Honor Society held officer elections for 2009-2010 and the results are as follows:  President - Andrew McGovern, Vice-President - Emily Payne, Secretary - Breelee LeBlanc, Treasurer - Blane Rhodes, and Historian - Victoria Simon.


Junior High & Intermediate have New Office Locations

The campus offices for junior high and intermediate have relocated on the junior high campus. Both offices are now located at the middle entrance of the L building. Mrs. Kurek, formerly on the intermediate campus, will greet you in the reception area. Offices for Mrs. Rainey, Mrs. Menard, and Mrs. Otto are also at this location. Special services have moved down to the former junior high office area.

8th Grade Banquet

The Adelia Wilcox Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society hosted the Eighth Grade Banquet on Saturday, May 16, 2009, in the Winnie-Stowell Community Building. Eighth grade students were honored and recognized with various accolades. This year's outstanding eighth grade boy was Glenn Roberts, and outstanding eighth grade girl was Zoë Zbranek. Highest ranking boy was Ethan Hughes, and highest ranking girl was Zoë Zbranek. A dance was held immediately after the banquet.

The top 10% of the class, in alphabetical order, was announced:

Arianna Ashworth, Emma Austin, Katie Bennett, Alexandria Extejt, Konnor George, Ethan Hughes, Jarred Lezak, Bryant Motl, Caroline Reddell, Hunter Rising, Ciara Starcke, and Zoë Zbranek.

In addition, Zoë Zbranek was recognized by the Chambers County Historical Commission for winning the designation "Best of the Best" in an essay-writing contest held for the schools in Chambers County which include Barbers Hill, Anahuac and East Chambers. More than 150 entries were received in all. Miss Zbranek was presented with a trophy and a $50 savings bond as the overall first place winner.


Students Receive Science Lesson in Thermodynamics

The RE/MAX hot air balloon program was brought to EC students in order to teach them about the physics of why hot air rises, how hot air becomes less dense, and what happens to the molecules during this process while at the same time being introduced to man's first form of flight - the hot air balloon. The hot air balloon is the prefect teaching aid that adds excitement to the lesson of thermodynamics.

Students had the opportunity to  walk by the basket and look inside and up into the balloon before gathering  behind the balloon for the presentation. More pictures.

EC Junior High and Intermediate Students Perform in Talent Show

The East Chambers Intermediate and Junior High Talent Show, "EC Solid Gold"  was held on May 14, 2009. Attendees were entertained by a variety of acts from singing, dancing, playing musical instruments to learning how to apply makeup. The show's emcees were Kirstie Thompson and Jase Vanya. Mrs. Sabrina Ashworth organized the program with help from Mr. Dennis DeMoss and students Micah Frugia and Emily McKnight.

National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony Held

The induction ceremony for The Adelia Wilcox Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society was held on Thursday, May 14, 2009, at the high school auditorium.

Current NJHS president, Zoe Zbranek, welcomed guests and inductees to open the ceremonies. The characteristics of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship were explained, and candidates were then inducted.

Eighth Grade Career Day Held - slideshow

Career DayThe annual eighth grade "Career Day" was held at the junior high on Tuesday, May 12, and eighth grade students had the opportunity to hear from professionals in many fields which included: Zeb Zbranek, attorney; Warden Sharon Allen, Dept. of Criminal Justice; Deputy Nacheal Bonin, sheriff; Sgt. Larry Brookshire, Beaumont Police Department; Kevin Hunt, nurse; Misty DeHoyos, Director of Radiology - Bayside Hospital; Kathy Goodman, Director of Community Development; Betty Reynolds, psychologist; Malinda Albriton, licensed social worker; Stevie Edwards, business owner Seafood Lovers; Jay Cockrell, Dougets; Jeffrey Leger, pilot; Gayle Fairley, Lamar University Education Dept.; Joey Wells, Lamar University Athletics; Bret McDonald,  carpenter & architect; Steve Magaha, chef, MCM Elegante Hotel; Paul Bergen, KBMT 12 News Director; and Kelli Sartor, graphics designer. ECJH Students Qualify for State Recognition

In the fall of 2008, ECJH 7th grade students who qualified for the Duke University Talent Identification program were announced.  Students who wished could continue with further testing to qualify for State or National Recognition.

ECISD is pleased to announce that two of our students, Andrew McGovern and Blane Rhodes, have qualified to be recognized on the state level.  A recognition program will be held in May at Lamar University which these students will be attending.


Sixth Graders Integrate Technology with Writing Skills

Students in Mrs. Lavergne's 6th grade creative writing classes have been designing interactive stories that allow the reader to decide which path is taken to ultimately control the plot. Students had to incorporate writing skills, creativity, keyboarding, multimedia skills, and presentation skills.

Junior High OAP Wins First Place - slideshow

The Junior High One-Act Play, DINNY AND THE WITCHES, was performed in competition at the 23-AA Festival of Plays on Wednesday, January 28. Other schools competing included Warren Junior High, Buna Junior High, and Kountze Middle School. ECJH's show was judged first place winning play.

Acting awards went to BEST ACTRESS Zoë Zbranek, BEST ACTOR Jaxon Vanya, and ALL-STAR CAST MEMBERS Ciara Starcke and Nichole Mayeux.

 

Other cast members included Ariana Ashworth, Jase Vanya, Ethan Hughes and Emily Neuman.  Set assistance was provided by Jarred Lezak, Hunter Rising, Bryant Motl and Cody Martin. The play was directed by Mrs. Cheryl Allen.


Students View Discovery Dome Presentations

The Discovery Dome came to the intermediate and junior high campus to engage students in an interactive science environment. The Discovery Dome is a portable full-dome theater surrounding students with immersive, engaging, and realistic programs. Developed by the Houston Museum of Natural Science and Rice University, the new theater offers a state-of-the-art visual learning experience.

East Chambers 5th through 7th graders viewed the Cosmic Questions program which explored the sun, moon, and the other planets of our solar system. Moon phases, seasons, and eclipses were observed. Eighth grade students viewed The Body Code program which explored the carotid artery, eye, brain, ear, and heart. In addition students discovered how DNA programs the body's cells to form the circulatory and nervous systems.

The first day of UIL Academic competition for intermediate and junior high students was held on Tuesday, November 11, 2008, at East Chambers. Students participated in Twin Day on Thursday; many thought they were seeing double - and they were!

 


Duke University Honors Qualifying ECJH 7th Graders

Duke University since 1980 has honored 7th graders who qualify for participation through the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP). The following 7th graders at East Chambers Junior High qualify for such honors this year: Brennan Beckett, Emily Bennett, Guy Davis, Jarrod Guillory, Amy Harrington, Jonathan Hebert, Brandon Hester, Megan Hinton, Breelee LeBlanc, Jessica Maggio, Andrew McGovern, Emily Payne, Blane Rhodes, Austin Ruff, Joshua Sims, Brittany Snider and Alex Walker.

Further program participation in the program is possible on an optional basis. Duke University TIP extends a personal note to the qualifying students. “Congratulations on your academic successes so far in your educational career. We welcome and value the opportunity to be of service to you!”
