Bucs Softball Falls to Deweyville

The Lady Bucs took on the Lady Pirates from Deweyville Tuesday in second round softball action. The Lady Bucs fell short losing 6-0. It was a hard fought game with several bright spots for EC. Mattie East had a great pitching performance allowing only 4 hits. The Lady Buc defense was great through the first three innings, and then let their guard down giving up 3 runs on 3 errors. The pitching by Deweyville was too much for the Lady Bucs as she struck out 14 batters. The only base runner for the night was a base-hit bunt by Katie Bennett.


Buccaneers Fall to Hardin

On Tuesday, March 23, 2010, the Lady Bucs went to Hardin for the last game of the first round of district play. EC scored 3 in the first and last innings, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the Lady Hornets. Abby Walker was 1 for 4 with 2RBI’s. Jordyn Kurek was 2 for 3, while Brandi Fischer went 1 for 4 with 2RBI’s and a run scored. The final score was 9 to 6. The Lady Bucs host Houston Yes Prep in a double-header, Friday, March 26 starting at 4:30. Please come out and support your team.

On Friday, March 5, the Lady Bucs played their first district game and lost to Deweyville. EC was eaten up by 5 big errors in the 2nd inning allowing the Lady Pirates to score 17 unanswered points. Final score was 18-0. Lindsey McDonald went 1 for 2.

Tuesday, March 9, the Lady Bucs traveled to Warren for their second district contest. Again our Lady Bucs went down, this time to a very good Warrior team. Errors again plagued us with 5 in the second inning. Abby Walker and Lindsey McDonald both went 1 for 2 with 1 stolen base each, and McDonald had the lone RBI scoring Katie Bennett. The final score was 13-1.

 

Friday, March 12, saw the Lady Panthers from Anahuac visiting. Mattie East was 1 for 4, Abby Walker 2 for 5 with one run scored. Jerri Chapman was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored. Brandi Fischer was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 4 RBI’s, while Lindsey McDonald was 3 for 4 with 1 RBI. It was a much better fielding performance with the Lady Bucs only chalking up one error. EC lead 4-0 until the 4th when the Anahuac bats erupted with 12 consecutive base hits. In the end, we went down 14-7.

On Tuesday, March 16, EC traveled to Buna and played in the rain. McDonald was 1 for 2 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. She also stole 2 bases and had 2 errors. Walker was 1 for 5 with 2 RBI’s and 1 error. Kurek was 0 for 1 with 3 runs scored, 2 stolen bases, and 2 base on balls. Fischer was 1 for 4 with 1 RBI. The final score was 12-10. The next game is Friday March 19 in Winnie versus Kountze at 5:00.


ECHS Softball Season Underway

The East Chambers Lady Bucs, lead by Coach Mike Todd, are “hot and heavy“ into the season. After beating Port Arthur Memorial in the home opener, the Lady Bucs then went on to beat High Island. Mattie East was the winning pitcher with 5 strike outs, 5 hits and 2 earned runs. Abby Walker was 1 for 2 and scored 2 runs. Brandi Fischer was 2 for 3. The final score was 12 to 2. The Lady Bucs then faced the Lady Eagles of Woodville who beat EC 15 to 1. East was the losing pitcher with 4 strike outs, 14 hits, and 9 earned runs. Makenzie Hunt was 1 for 2 and scored 1 run, while Fischer was also 1 for 2 with 1RBI.

This past weekend, the Lady Bucs started the Jasper Tournament with a loss to Colmesneil. Mattie East was again the losing pitcher with 2 strike outs, 11hits, and 5 earned runs. Lindsey McDonald, fresh out of basketball season, went 1 for 2, and Abby Walker was also 1 for 2. In the second game, the Lady Bucs beat Port Arthur Memorial 4 to 0. Walker was 2 for 2, scored 1 run, and had 2RBI’s. Karrie Bennett went 1 for 3 and scored 1. Mattie East was the winning pitcher with 8 strike outs, 2 hits, and 0 earned runs. On Friday at the tourney, EC beat West Hardin 16 to 11. East was the winning pitcher with 2 strike outs, 7 hits, and 4 earned runs. McDonald was 2 for 3, scored 3 runs, and had 1 RBI. Bennett and Walker went 2 for 3. Jerri Chapman went 3 for 3 and had 2 RBI’s. Abbey Johnson was 2 for 2 with 4 RBI’s. Then on Saturday went 0 for 2 as they took on Brookeland and West Sabine respectfully. East was the losing pitcher in both. She had 4 strike outs 6 hits and 3 earned runs in the first game. The score was 8 to 6. McDonald went 3 for 3 and scored 2 runs. Bennett was 1 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. Walker was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI’s. EC lost to West Sabine by a score of 6 to 3. East had 1 strike out, 5 hits, and 2 earned runs. Bennett went 1 for 3 while Walker and Fischer finished 1 for 2. Fischer also had 1 RBI. Kurek went 1 for 2 and had 1 RBI.

The Lady Bucs don’t have a game this Tuesday, March 2. There will be a double-header with Yes Prep later in the season. On Friday the Lady Bucs open district at home with Deweyville. Thursday and Saturday they will play at the Sabine Pass Tournament.
