Second
Graders Writing "How To" Papers |
 |
Second grade students in Ms.
Tami Smith's class have been
engaged in writing "How To"
papers about making confetti
eggs. In addition to actually
making the eggs, students have
been documenting the steps in
order to write the step-by-step
directions in a "How To" paper.
Students will then have the
steps to share with family and
friends in case they want to
make more at home.

Fun Run and Health Fair was Huge
Success |
 |
A fun run and health fair was
held on Saturday, April 9,
2011, in order to raise money
to add to the grant that was
awarded to ECE for putting in
a walking path.
Entry fees from the fun run
will be used along with the
$1200 grant to complete the
project.
There were over 20 booths at
this year’s health fair,
including the LaBelle
smokehouse for families to learn
what to do in
the event of a
|
|
house fire, the trauma
helicopter, EMS and fire
trucks for emergency
information, puppet shows, a
tattoo booth, fingerprinting and
DNA kits for child I.D., and
lots more. Door prizes and
TONS of health information
were given out. The new
County Wellness Center was
there and gave away a 3-month
membership in addition to the
information about the many
programs they have. Our local
hospital provided screenings
for cholesterol, diabetes, and
healthy BMIs.
Donations are still being
taken for the walking path
project (aka “Walk 4 Life”) so
that we may put work-out
stations along the
path. Please make checks
payable to EAST CHAMBERS
ELEMENTARY and tag the memo
line "walking path."
There were over 130 runners
for the fun run and 300+
attendees to the health
fair. Proceeds and donations
for the day exceeded $2500. A
huge thank you to our sponsor
Wilcox Pharmacy for their
generosity, the Junior High
Honor Society students who
helped set up and work the
booths and concession stand,
as well as all those who
participated and made it
happen. View

Elementary Music Class Utilizes
Enriching Lessons |
First Grade
students at East Chambers
Elementary enjoyed using today’s
technology in their music class
as they danced to Michael
Jackson’s song The Experience
on the Nintendo Wii.
Fridays are “character days” in
music, and this past Friday,
music students came up with ways
they can show someone they care
about them.
The ideas were put onto leaves
and taped to a bare tree. By the
end of the day, the Caring Tree
was overflowing with great
ideas.
Ms. Lauren
Millner-Sanchez is their music
teacher. |

Vargas Chosen
"Principal for the Day" |
 |
All of the 4th grade students,
at East Chambers Elementary, who
scored 80 or higher on their
practice TAKS test had their
name put in a drawing to be
"Principal for the Day." Odalis
Vargas was chosen, and you can
read her autobiography and
comments below:
My name is Odalis Vargas. I was
born on September 24, 2000. My
home consists of a family of
four. It is myself, my mom, dad,
and a brother named Jose Vargas.
I am in the fourth grade, and I
have six teachers.
|
|
My favorite subject is math,
that’s why when I grow up I want
to become a math teacher. My
favorite activity at school is
PE. I always love playing tag
during PE class with my friends.
My favorite food is pizza. I
love pizza because it has lots
of cheese on it.
I also had the best day ever at
school because I got to be the
“Principal for the Day.” I got
to do the announcements, help
Mrs. Otto. I helped a girl with
her work; I also got to read to
the first graders! For lunch,
Mrs. Otto and I had Sonic!! At
PE time, Ms. Wagner said that I
could partner up with whoever I
wanted. I also made a
proclamation, that all students
could have 30 extra minutes of
recess for the day. The whole
day was cool and awesome!!! |

PreK Students
Learn about Tchaikovsky |
|
Pre-kindergarten students
prepare for the holidays in
Mrs. Milner-Sanchez' music
class by practicing a scarf
dance to the Nutcracker
Suite by Tchaikovsky. It
may come as a surprise to
many to learn that Pyotr
(Peter) Tchaikovsky, one of
the best-loved composers of
all time, began his adult
life in one of the least
glamorous occupations known
to man: government clerk. The young official had
continued his youthful
interest in music, but
declared at the age of 21
that ``even if I actually
had any talent, it can
hardly be developed now.''
It is indeed fortunate for
posterity that he turned out
to be wrong. |

Elections
Held for Students at Elementary
Campus -
slideshow |
 |
On Tuesday (Election Day) the
students in Miss Smith’s
Elementary ESL classes learned
about voting. They talked about
our American flag and why it has
13 stripes and 50 stars. They
also learned what voting means
and why it is an important
freedom in our country.
In each class (grades K-4th)
the students signed in on a
voter’s registration sheet and
then voted for their favorite
pet animal (K-1st) or their
favorite subject in school
(2nd-4th). |
|
As the children waited to take
their turn voting, they colored
or completed an Election Day
word search puzzle, while
listening to patriotic music.
Oh, by the way… “man’s best
friend” seems to remain “man’s
best friend." The dog came in
first place as their favorite
pet, with the horse coming in as
a close second. And they liked
their 1,2,3s more than their
ABCs! Math beat out reading with
a vote of 10-3. They all had a
great time and hope that you
remembered to vote, too! |

usual
for kindergartner Aubrey

hive, a bee suit, and a
honey spinning machine to show. The presentation also
included a special visual
about the lives of bees and
an exciting bee dance
performed by Mandy Andrews.
Bee attire was modeled by Aubrey
